Competition: Runner-Up
The utilization concept that was chosen is based on an excellent public transportation network between the old town and the train station area as
well as on the revival of the Markthalle Basel through a wide variety of high-
quality products (retail shops, gastronomy, hotel). The unique space quality
and the high-level architecture of the existing cupola construction are pre-
served and emphasized. Retail stores and restaurants are spread around
the central cupola area; a connected sales area for a large-scale distributor
is planned in the basement. This Is a cost-effective concept, which ensures
the continued existence of the Markthalle, upgrades it considerably and turns
it into a new public center of attraction in the proximity of the train station
Basel.
